The AKAYA Foundation, in collaboration with the Korang Foundation is proud to announce the successful completion of Project Esi 2.0, a transformative school renovation initiative designed to improve education infrastructure and access for marginalized and underserved communities.
This year’s project, located in the Bormase Ternya community in Ghana’s Eastern Region, saw the renovation of three classrooms, a staff common room, and the headteacher’s office, creating a safer, more conducive learning environment for students.
Project Esi 2.0 is already having an impact thanks to the combined efforts of donors, volunteers, and partner organizations. In just one week after its unveiling, the school reported an increase in student enrollment, indicating the project’s rapid and favorable impact.
“Seeing the school that we’ve been working so hard to build for this amazing community has actually left me speechless,” said Dr. Khadija Owusu, founder of AKAYA. “Walking into the building and seeing that this project has actually come to fruition is honestly a dream come true!”
The project was made possible by generous contributions from our partner – The Korang Foundation, individuals, businesses, and volunteers from all over the world who worked together to make this vision a reality. Their activities spanned from fundraising to physically aiding with the renovations, highlighting the endless possibilities of global collaboration.
H. Ofori, the Founder of the project, emphasized the significance of partnerships in creating lasting change: “Education is probably one of the biggest multipliers in the world. The goal is that as we continue to give them the equipment and classrooms to study in, in twenty, thirty years’ time, these will be people that are a part of our economy, part of our government. And they will remember these moments in order to replicate and pass it on so that when we look back in fifty, hundred years’ time and we see the difference that everyone has made to the school, the difference it has made to their lives, and the difference they have made going forward.”
Project Esi is an annual project to restore and refurbish educational facilities in Ghana, ensuring that children in impoverished areas have access to secure and stimulating learning environments. The first Project Esi, launched in 2023, focused on The Stages Academy in Ayikuma, and with every incarnation, the initiative’s objective to alleviate educational disparities grows stronger.
The AKAYA Foundation thus invites businesses, organizations, and individuals to join in its mission and contribute to future projects. Donations, sponsorships, and volunteering opportunities are all avenues for creating sustainable change, as well as opportunities to join hands in the future with Project Esi.
