The Chief Executive Officer of MTN Ghana, Stephen Blewett, has reaffirmed the company’s commitment to leading Ghana’s digital transformation, unveiling bold initiatives and investments during the launch of Digifest 2025.
Mr. Blewett emphasised that MTN’s vision is crystal clear: to build a digital future that leaves no one behind while empowering the next generation of innovators.
“Africa’s progress will be digital, or it will not be at all,” he stressed, echoing the words of MTN Group CEO Ralph Mupita.
In the last five years, MTN Ghana has invested more than $1 billion in strengthening the country’s digital infrastructure, expanding network coverage, and improving internet speeds. This year alone, the company is committing an additional $240 million to build the “highways of a more digital future.”
“These are not just abstract numbers,” the CEO noted. “They represent schools accessing e-learning, small businesses reaching new markets, hospitals delivering smarter healthcare, and innovators creating solutions the world will one day celebrate as made in Ghana.”

A central theme of Mr. Blewett’s address was youth empowerment. MTN Ghana is supporting the One Million Coders Project, an initiative aimed at equipping young Ghanaians with coding and artificial intelligence (AI) skills.
“Beyond technology training, this project will give young people the tools to innovate, create content, believe in themselves, and ultimately transform Ghana and Africa. We are empowering them to be self-reliant,” he said.
Highlighting AI’s transformative potential, the CEO explained how it could reshape entire sectors from predictive diagnostics in healthcare, to inclusive financial services, to more efficient governance.
“At MTN, we are committed to investing in AI-driven solutions that simplify life, improve customer experience, and unlock new growth opportunities,” Mr. Blewett said.
Running over three weeks, Digifest 2025 is designed to showcase the power of digital innovation. Highlights include:
- A UX/UI hackathon focused on inclusive digital design.
- Experiential booths featuring the MyEngine app and MTN’s digital platforms.
- AI community sessions to spark curiosity and inspire innovation.
- TechQuiz Fridays and gamified learning experiences to make digital education engaging and fun.
Using the example of interactive Kahoot quizzes, Mr. Blewett noted how gamification can transform learning across schools, universities, and businesses.
Closing his remarks, Mr. Blewett challenged Ghana’s youth to rise to the occasion:
“Bring forward groundbreaking ideas that can blow our minds. MTN will be there to support you and I personally will be there to cheer you on. The next greatest idea should and will come from Africa, and why shouldn’t it come from Ghana?”
He further suggested that Ghana should lead the way in creating a “Made in Ghana” digital seal of approval to celebrate homegrown innovations.
With Digifest 2025, MTN Ghana has not only reaffirmed its investment in infrastructure but also signalled its resolve to champion digital empowerment, youth innovation, and artificial intelligence as key drivers of Ghana’s future.
