ACHIMOTA SCHOOL STUDENT TYRONE IRAS MARHGUY WINS FULL SCHOLARSHIP TO UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA

In an inspiring tale of perseverance and determination, Tyrone Iras Marhguy, a young Ghanaian student, has been awarded a full scholarship to pursue Computer Engineering at the prestigious University of Pennsylvania.

Tyrone’s journey began at Achimota School, where he excelled academically, earning an impressive 8 A’s in his final exams. However, his path was not without challenges. He faced a daunting decision: choose between his Rastafarian dreadlocks, a symbol of his faith, and attending high school. With the support of his father and an entire nation, he challenged the school’s rules, fighting for his right to education and freedom to express his identity.

This courageous stance sparked a national and global debate on individual rights and education, with Tyrone becoming a vocal advocate for equality and tolerance through numerous media appearances. After a two-month court battle, he emerged victorious, paving the way for inclusive education and inspiring others to stand against discrimination.

Now, as he prepares to join the University of Pennsylvania’s class of 2028 as a proud Quaker, Tyrone reflects on the lessons of resilience, advocacy, and gratitude that have defined his journey thus far.

Tyrone had also received offers from Duke, Williams, and Franklin & Marshall, totaling $1.4 million over four years, a testament to his academic excellence and potential.

As he embarks on this new chapter, Tyrone carries with him the hopes and dreams of his beloved Ghana, determined to make a difference through his studies in engineering and beyond.
