Africa Basketball Festival (ABF) to launch US Chapter

The Africa Basketball Festival (ABF) has announced its expansion into the United States (US), building on the success of its three previous editions in Ghana. The festival will launch its US chapter at Holiday Inn Suites, Laurel, Maryland on August 17, introducing a unique blend of basketball, fashion, and music to a new audience.

ABF was previously hosted in 2019, 2022, and 2023, featured teams from Ghana, Nigeria, Togo, Liberia, the US, and France. Its 2023 festival which marks the 3rd edition, had 8 African countries in participation.

The festival was founded by Ghanaian Yaw Sakyi Afari through his visionary leadership at RITE Sports. Afari has sparked a basketball renaissance, harnessing the power of flagship programs like the Sprite Ball Championship and UPAC Basketball Championship to create a lasting impact on the sport in Africa and its community.

The dynamic event brings together international basketball teams, fashion brands, and musicians for a thrilling experience that transcends sports and culture.

Its innovative format merges competitive basketball tournaments with fashion shows and live music performances, that will appeal to diverse people no matter their background.

The festival’s launch event in Maryland will serve as a platform for organizers to unveil plans for its expansion into the US and other countries starting in 2025. Attendees can expect to meet key players from the basketball, fashion, and music industries, including team owners, designers, artists, and influencers.

Meanwhile, the 2024 edition of the Africa Basketball Festival is scheduled to take place in Ghana’s capital city of Accra, from October 24-27 at the University of Ghana’s basketball court, featuring teams from 10 African countries, an increase from the last edition.

The highly anticipated event is expected to deliver a memorable experience, featuring intense basketball competition, stunning fashion shows, and captivating music performances.

As the ABF continues to grow and evolve, its mission remains steadfast to unite people through the universal languages of sports, fashion, promoting cultural exchange, and celebration.
