Inaugural “Pull Up and Pitch” Competition Event Empowers Young Women Entrepreneurs

The Black Star Pearls of Ghana, an Interest Group of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® (AKA), hosted its first annual “Pull Up and Pitch” competition event on Saturday, November 2nd at Crescendo Foods, West Africa’s first coworking kitchen. This exciting competition aimed to empower young women entrepreneurs between the ages of 16-25 in Ghana by providing them with a platform to showcase their innovative business ideas and gain valuable feedback from industry expertsAligned with AKA’s national “Build Your Economic Wealth” program and the sorority’s theme “Soaring to Greater Heights of Service and Sisterhood,” the “Pull Up and Pitch” event fostered a movement of female empowerment within the Ghanaian business community. Young women entrepreneurs participated in the competition for a chance to gain valuable exposure, mentorship, and cash prizes to fuel their entrepreneurial endeavors.

The competition featured passionate pitches from talented young women with diverse business ideas. Roselyn Ntim emerged victorious with her innovative plan for Asaaseaduane, a company focused on organic fertilizer production. Grace Thompson secured second place with her vision for Unique Imports, a company dedicated to importing a variety of consumer goods. Belinda Yeboah‘s catering service, Benila Food-Hood, captured third place.

A Celebration of Talent and Mentorship

“We are incredibly proud of all the young women who participated in the ‘Pull Up and Pitch’ event,” remarked Afi Daitey, the Program co-Chair from  the Black Star Pearls of Ghana Interest Group. “Their passion, creativity, and determination were truly inspiring.”

Beyond the competition, all participants received mentorship opportunities with experienced members of the Black Star Pearls, commemorative t-shirts, and certificates of participation. The top three winners, along with the audience favorite chosen by a live vote, received additional cash prizes to further support their businesses. The top three winners will also benefit from one-on-one strategy planning sessions to take their businesses to the next level.

Building a Brighter Future

The inaugural “Pull Up and Pitch” event proved to be a resounding success, solidifying the Black Star Pearls of Ghana Interest Group’s commitment to empowering young women in the Ghanaian business landscape. The sorority looks forward to continuing this impactful program and celebrating the success of future generations of female entrepreneurs.
