Leicester City, fresh from their promotion to the Premier League, are on the verge of signing Ghana international Jordan Ayew from Crystal Palace.
The Foxes have agreed to a deal worth £5 million upfront, with potential add-ons reaching £3 million for the experienced 32-year-old striker.
Ayew, who made 30 Premier League starts for Palace last season, is expected to undergo a medical soon.
He is set to become Leicester’s seventh summer acquisition, joining the likes of Oliver Skipp, Fatawu Issahaku, Caleb Okoli, and Bobby De Cordova Reid.
The Ghanaian forward’s journey to Leicester has been a storied one. After beginning his career with Marseille in Ligue 1, Ayew made his mark at Lorient before stints with Aston Villa and Swansea City.
He joined Palace initially on loan in 2018 before making the move permanent a year later, going on to net 23 goals in 211 appearances for the Eagles.
Ayew’s Premier League pedigree is particularly noteworthy. With 275 appearances, he holds the record for the most games played by a Ghanaian in the English top flight.
His tally of 37 goals and 25 assists also stands as the highest for any Ghanaian player in Premier League history.
For Leicester’s head coach Steve Cooper, Ayew’s signing continues a personal trend – he has now worked with an Ayew at every club he has managed.
His compatriot Fatawu Issahaku will receive the news well, potentially forming an exciting Ghanaian connection in the Foxes’ attack.
As Leicester prepares for life back in the Premier League, Ayew’s experience and goal-scoring ability could prove crucial as they hope EPL results go their way.
The club has seen several departures, including Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, Marc Albrighton, Dennis Praet, and Kelechi Iheanacho, making Ayew’s arrival all the more significant as they aim to establish themselves once again in England’s top tier.
