Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola has admitted he has to “prove” himself amidst the club’s current crisis.
The Cityzens are winless in five football results. They recently surrendered a three-goal lead against Feyenoord in the Champions League after losing four consecutive matches.
The reigning Premier League champions have been unlucky with injuries after losing Rodri for the rest of the season while Ruben Dias, Mateo Kovacic, John Stones, Kyle Walker, Jeremy Doku, Kevin de Bruyne, and Manuel Akanji have all struggled with fitness issues.
Manchester City’s poor run of form has seen them fall eight points behind Liverpool in the Premier League, a gap that could potentially extend when they face Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.
Guardiola says it’s unrealistic to talk about a title challenge yet he is relishing the chance to overcome this challenge.
“Of course it’s not nice but what do you expect? That everything is red carpet? That everything is nice and easy?” he said.
“It’s easy when you are [winning] 10, 12 games in a row, everyone is fit, everyone is in their prime and everyone is 26, 27, 28. When everything is going well, that is easy.
“I have to prove myself now.”
Guardiola recently extended his Manchester City contract to 2027 and has won 18 trophies for the English club so far.
