AUCC Receives Presidential Assent to Become Fully-Fledged Autonomous African University of Communications and Business (AUCB)

The African University College of Communications (AUCC) has achieved a historic milestone in its journey to academic excellence. The institution has received Presidential assent to operate as a fully-fledged autonomous University, marking a significant turning point in its evolution. As of today, the University is now officially recognized as the African University of Communications and Business (AUCB).

This monumental achievement is the result of years of unwavering support and guidance from esteemed institutions such as the University of Ghana, University of Cape Coast, Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), University of Education, Winneba, and the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission, alongside the Ministry of Education. The University’s leadership extends heartfelt gratitude to these partners for their invaluable mentorship throughout the process.

The new title of African University of Communications and Business (AUCB) reflects the institution’s expanded mission. It now aims to provide world-class education that blends excellence in communication and media studies with a strong focus on business, entrepreneurship, and technology within a Pan African framework. As a Chartered University, AUCB is committed to equipping its students with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in the dynamic and evolving global economy.

Founded in 2002 by Honorable Kojo Yankah, AUCB was initially established as a private tertiary institution and the first journalism and communication school in Africa, known as the African Institute of Journalism and Communications (AIJC). Over the years, the institution has grown and evolved, broadening its academic offerings. In 2010, the School of Business was established, which was later renamed the Sam E. Jonah School of Business in 2014.

Since its inception, AUCB has played a crucial role in shaping the careers of many prominent figures in Ghana’s communication, media, and business sectors. The institution continues to make an impact on the academic and professional landscapes, nurturing future leaders poised to drive change and innovation.

As AUCB embarks on this exciting new chapter, it invites all its internal and external stakeholders—including students, alumni, faculty, staff, and partners—to celebrate this milestone and join in the University’s continued commitment to academic excellence and societal development.

This prestigious achievement marks a bright future for AUCB as it leads the way in providing high-quality education and creating opportunities for the next generation of leaders in communications, business, and beyond.
