Petra Aba Asamoah Appointed Chairperson of Ghana Post Governing Board, Vows Bold Transformation

Accomplished marketing executive and author, Petra Aba Asamoah, has been officially sworn in as the new Chairperson of the Governing Board of Ghana Post Company Limited, in a ceremony led by the Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George (MP). Her appointment marks a renewed effort to reposition Ghana Post as a dynamic player in Ghana’s digital and 24-hour economy.

Speaking at the swearing-in event, Hon. Sam George charged the newly constituted board with a clear mandate: transform Ghana Post into an engine of service delivery and national integration in the digital age. He emphasized that the revival of Ghana Post is key to President John Dramani Mahama’s vision of resetting state institutions to drive inclusive development.

“For most young Ghanaians today, the concept of a post office is alien. That should not be the case. In countries like the UK and US, the postal service is still integral to national life. We must bridge that postal gap,” the Minister noted.

He outlined priority areas including a comprehensive audit of Ghana Post’s assets, forging strategic partnerships in biometric passport and public service delivery, and leveraging rural telephony infrastructure to enhance accessibility across the country.

In her acceptance speech, Ms. Petra Aba Asamoah described her appointment as a call to national duty:

She acknowledged the evolution of communication in Ghana—from boarding school letters to WhatsApp messages—and noted the role of Ghana Post in adapting to the modern digital ecosystem:

Asamoah, who brings a wealth of private sector experience and a strong track record in marketing, leadership, and innovation, pledged to adopt a customer-centric approach and bring strong management capacity to bear on the task ahead.

“What’s a professional doing accepting a public service role? Well, if not me, who? And if not now, when?”

She also expressed gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for the opportunity to serve and praised the Minister for his vision and bold leadership.

The new Board includes:

  • Mr. Alexander Yaw Arphul – Chief Director
  • Ms. Rita Sraha – Acting Managing Director, Ghana Post Ltd.
  • Mr. Jerry John Kofi Aseidu – Member
  • Dr. Samuel Ayeh – Member
  • Mr. Edward Perry Nelson – Member
  • Ms. Susanna Asaabea Nyampong – Member

With the digital economy growing rapidly and Ghana embracing a 24-hour economic model, Petra Aba Asamoah’s leadership could signal a pivotal moment in Ghana Post’s resurgence as an essential institution of national relevance.

“I said yes, to serve my country,” she concluded, reaffirming her commitment to Ghana’s transformation agenda.
