Uzoechina Molokwu Takes Helm as Managing Director/CEO of UBA Ghana
United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc has announced the appointment of Uzoechina Molokwu as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of UBA Ghana, effective from February 21, 2024. With a rich background spanning over two decades in the banking sector, Molokwu is set to bring his wealth of expertise to lead the Ghanaian operations and drive the bank’s growth trajectory.
Molokwu’s journey with UBA began in August 2023 when he assumed the role of Deputy Managing Director (DMD) of UBA Ghana. His extensive experience in the banking industry includes significant roles at UBA Nigeria, where he served as Directorate Head, Regional Manager, Branch Manager, and ultimately as Executive Director at UBA Cote d’Ivoire.
Armed with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and a Master of Business Administration from Nigerian universities, Molokwu further solidified his academic background with a Master of Science in Corporate Governance and an LLM in Business Law, both earned from prestigious universities in the United Kingdom.
His professional expertise spans across various domains, including Corporate Banking, Private Client Services, Commercial Banking, Small and Medium Enterprises Banking, Consumer Banking, and Energy Banking. Molokwu is also recognized for his commendable track record in relationship management, business development, credit evaluation, restructuring, risk asset portfolio management, and effective people leadership.
The announcement was met with confidence and commendation from the Board Chairman of UBA Ghana, Kweku Awotwi. Mr. Awotwi expressed his confidence in Molokwu’s appointment, emphasizing the wealth of experience and leadership qualities he brings to the role. Having served as Deputy Managing Director before his promotion, Molokwu’s proven track record of excellence and dedication during his tenure was highlighted, underscoring his strategic vision and commitment to advancing the bank’s objectives.
Mr. Awotwi further emphasized the importance of continuity and stability in leadership, noting that Molokwu’s appointment ensures a seamless transition for UBA Ghana.
