The Miss Universe Ghana 2022 pageant has, over last weekend, crowned a new queen in the person of Engracia Afua K. Mofuman.
Miss Universe Ghana is a pageant that looks to crown Ghana’s Next Sweetheart is a national pageant that sends representatives to the Miss Universe International pageant. A lady from each of the regions in Ghana gets to compete for the title of Miss Universe Ghana and a chance to repress the country on the international stage.
Engracia Afua K. Mofuman is 27 years of age and 176 cm tall. No stranger to pageants, she has competed at Miss Intercontinental 2018 where she advanced to the Top 20. Winning Miss Universe Ghana 2022, she had Dorothy Ndede of the Ahafo region and Magalie Ama Kab of the Eastern region with her in the Top 3.
Engracia will represent Ghana at Miss Universe 2022 to be held later next year. She speaks fluent French, Spanish, English and Portuguese. She takes over from Naa Morkor Commodore, the appointed Miss Universe Ghana 2021 who represented the country was unable to place favourably.
The Miss Universe Ghana pageant was started in 1991 and In May 2017, Menaye Donkor, winner of the Miss Universe Ghana 2004 and now famous model and philanthropist, was appointed as national director. In July 2019, she announced that the Miss Universe Ghana organization was suspended while the restructuring of the organization continues, resulting in Ghana being unable to participate in the international pageant of that year. Operations however resumed in 2020.
30 years after the pageant was began, Ghana is yet to win the crown. Hopefully, Engracia will be the one to break this dry spell.
