GHANA GETS FIRST FEMALE PROFESSOR OF ECONOMICS: Rev Prof. Grace Nkansa Asante Makes History

Rev Prof. Grace Nkansa Asante (PhD) has made history by becoming Ghana’s first female Professor of Economics. The promotion, approved by the University Council, recognizes her exceptional academic achievements and contributions to the field of economics.

Prof. Asante, a Professor at the Department of Economics, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has been a dedicated academic for nearly two decades. Her scholarly work focuses on Economic Policy Analysis, Monetary Economics, and Financial Economics.

In addition to her academic accomplishments, Prof. Asante holds various leadership positions, including Vice Dean at the Faculty of Social Sciences, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, KNUST, and Visiting Lecturer at the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC). She has also served as Head of Department of Economics at KNUST from 2019 to 2022.

Prof. Asante’s professional experience extends beyond academia, having worked as a research officer at the African Development Bank in Abidjan and as a public administrator at the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly.

A ordained priest in the Anglican Communion, Prof. Asante serves at the Archbishop Thomas Cranmer Anglican Church at KNUST, demonstrating her commitment to both academic and spiritual pursuits.

This milestone achievement marks a significant breakthrough for women in academia and economics, inspiring future generations to pursue their goals and strive for excellence.
