Meet Nancy Mma-Ngaare Mba, An Engineering Student Passionate About Social Change

To inspire others to be the best version of themselves is what drives Nancy Mma-Ngaare Mba. Nancy is a young lady known by many for her confident, inspiring and goal-oriented personality, whose love for Mathematics and problem solving has led into the engineering field. Currently, she is a junior-year Electrical and Electronics Engineering student at Ashesi University, where she combines her love for arts, creative writing, and community service with Engineering.

She currently is a Content Creator at TechNova Gh, where she seeks to contribute to the online presence of the Tech ecosystem of Ghana and Africa. At Ashesi, she has engaged in coaching roles and served as an Engineering Curriculum Design Associate for Firenze Organization. This organization seeks to bridge innovation and technological gaps amongst children and teens in Ghana through sharp-witted youth and cutting-edge solutions.

Nancy had her secondary school education at St. Francis of Assisi Girls’ Senior High, where she did not just graduate with excellent results but was a noteworthy leader in student governance. Driven by her love for mathematics, she got into the African Science Academy(ASA), becoming part of the 22 brilliant girls selected from Africa to complete the rigorous Cambridge A-Level Maths, Further Maths, and Physics in 11 months instead of two years in 2018.

She has met and performed poetry/storytelling in honor of some of the outstanding leaders of our time, including H.E Nana Konadu-Agyemang Rawlings, H.E. Ameenah Gurib Fakeem, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, and Dr. Mujuru at the International Sheroes Forum. She has also performed at the Ghana Power Compact Internship and Mentoring Program (Millennium Development Authority) and TEDx Ashesi.

Currently, she is starting up MSmiles, a foundation aimed at advocacy and providing psychosocial support to children at Children’s Homes and orphanages inspired by a recent volunteer role at Weep Not Child Foundation Orphanage. Nancy aspires to be an engineer who can creatively solve engineering problems and make substantial contributions towards societal change.
