Smirnoff Calls for More Women Participation in Creative Arts Industry

Ghana’s creative arts industry has witnessed remarkable growth in recent years, a phenomenon which can be largely attributed to a section of the nation’s youthful population exploring careers in the sector.

Despite the significant progress that has been made, there remains more work to be done towards building a more vibrant, inclusive and dynamic creative arts industry.

Globally, and in Ghana, DJs have been instrumental in pushing our arts and culture, especially, the performing arts and entertainment industry. For the past 11 years, the Ghana DJ Awards, has done a lot of work to showcase and highlight the works of Ghanaian DJs as well as other DJs across the continent. Celebrating and highlighting the works of DJs requires the need for increased collaboration and significant investment in the sector.

Guinness Ghana has been a strategic partner to the growth and development of Ghana’s creative arts and entertainment sector through the sponsorship of various events and initiatives. It comes as no surprise therefore that Guinness Ghana, with Smirnoff as the lead brand, signed a three-year partnership deal with the Ghana DJ Awards.

For Smirnoff, this partnership sets a sharp focus on championing diversity and inclusion by empowering female DJS and nurturing the talents and skills of upcoming DJs across tertiary institutions in the country.

Marketing Manager for Spirits & RTDs at Guinness Ghana Breweries Limited, Yaa Amoah-Owusu, points out that the partnership is directly in line with the vision to promote diversity and inclusion through the arts and entertainment sector.

“We are thrilled to be the headline sponsors of the Ghana DJ Awards. Over the years we have noticed how much work they have done to promote DJs and celebrate their creativity. That is why we decided to throw our hat into the ring and support them in giving these awesome creatives the recognition they deserve. One thing that we have also noticed is that unfortunately there is very little amplification of female DJs and their contribution to music in Ghana. There are a lot of wonderful young ladies who are doing amazing things as DJs and they deserve to be recognized.”

“At Smirnoff, we seek to create a society where every individual feels a sense of belonging and can thrive and contribute their fullest. That is why we are glad to be working with the wonderful team behind the Ghana DJ Awards to highlight the impressive efforts of female DJs. Through this partnership, we want to create a space for female DJs to be empowered and to also provide opportunities for young and upcoming DJs to nurture their talents and explore the full length of their creativity.”

Through this partnership, female DJs along with their male counterparts and upcoming DJs will undergo capacity building sessions and learn from industry professionals and experts. These sessions will go a long way to foster the development of Ghana’s DJ sector and promote our music scene. They will also be showcased through the Guinness Ghana Pub Fest, a regional roadshow across the country.
