US-based social media platform Twitter has chosen Ghana to host it’s African office, the first of it’s kind on the continent.
On Monday 12th April 2021, Jack Dorsey, CEO of twitter announced the setting up of their first African office in Ghana in a now viral tweet.

It will be recalled that Jack Dorsey in 2019 did a tour of some African countries, Ghana and Nigeria included. Now, the purpose of those visits have been made clear as it was a way of determining the best location for the first African twitter office.
The official account of the president of Ghana, His Excellency Nana Akufo Addo has also tweeted this news, appreciating the choice of Ghana for this initiative, stating the mutual benefits it will bring to the parties involved.

On their careers site, 9 positions are being advertised as needing to be filled for the corporation to begin work in Ghana.
This news has been met with various reactions across the platform.
So we currently have Amazon (South Africa), Facebook (Nigeria), Google (Nigeria, Ghana), Microsoft (Nigeria, Kenya) and Twitter (Ghana). Interesting times ahead.

Various users have attributed the choice of Ghana over Nigeria to the relatively stable economic atmosphere of the country. However, Twitter’s biggest competitor, Facebook Inc. is opening its second African office in Nigeria later this year.
