Over the weekend, Ghanaian and African music acts won big at the 3Music Awards. In its fourth year, the event recognises artistes achievements of Ghanaian and African artists. This year’s edition however saw a shift in production and execution. Social media has been set ablaze by the performances and the entire show.
KiDi, the biggest winner of the night, walked away with four awards, including Song of the Year, Afrobeats/Afropop Song of the Year and the newly introduced category EP of the Year. Dancehall singer Stonebwoy and gospel musician Diana Hamilton followed closely with three awards apiece.
Users of social media platform twitter have taken to expressing their delight over the novelty of this year’s edition, with some even describing the event as the future of Ghanaian music awards.
This year’s main ceremony was preceded by the 3Music Women’s Brunch on International Women’s Day, where women in Ghanaian music were awarded with Emerging Woman of the Year, Most Streamed Female Artist of the Year, Music Woman of the Year as well as a number honorary awards.
Hosted by Jay Foley and Naa Ashorkor, the show saw performances from Santrofi, Gyakie, Medikal, Joey B, Diana Hamilton and highlife legend Nana Acheampong, among others.
