Priscilla Akosua Boatemaa Owusu also known as Scilla Owusu is a Ghanaian filmmaker and director working hard to make a name for herself and to change the narrative around women in the industry. She has worked on films & music videos which bare her creative talents & eye for detail.
In 2020, at the age of 23, Scilla was named as one of Forbes 30 under 30 Africans, a list dedicated to honouring and bringing attention to young Africans doing phenomenally in business, technology and the creative arts. This was barely five years into the young woman’s career.
In 2015, after graduating from the Sir George Monoux College with a BTech in Business studies, she took up a production assistant position, a position which would later open the doors to other engagements for her. Around this same time, she created her first project, an online series entitled ‘A Lesson Learnt’ which went on to receive the 2016 award for best web series ensemble at the prestigious Screen Nation Media Awards for the Digital online category.
Scilla is a Video Director, Producer, Screenwriter, and Founder of Youngtrepreneurs and has worked with big names like Davido, Burna Boy, Sarkodie, Mr Eazi, Patoranking, Diamond Platnumz, Morgan Heritage, Wande Coal and Maleek Berry. Within a year of identifying her passion for screenwriting and video directing, she had churned out notable music videos such as Tomorrow by M.anifest featuring Burna Boy, Love coming down by Don EE featuring Davido and Odo Bi by Stonebwoy featuring Sarkodie.
Away from her screenwriting and filmmaking, she runs her own social youth organization in Ghana called Youngtrepreneurs to help young Ghanaian creatives improve their business knowledge, gain work skills and provide career opportunities.
A short while ago, Scilla unveiled her much talked about documentary film City of Bukom, a film on the history of the small community of Bukom where several world boxing champions have been known to come from.
