Neta Kris Abiana Parsram, a dynamic medical doctor, and accomplished communicator, has been named the “Most Promising Journalist of the Year” at the prestigious Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards 2023. Her remarkable achievements in both the medical and media fields have earned her this well-deserved recognition.
Dr. Parsram, who is registered with Ghana’s Medical and Dental Council, currently dedicates her medical expertise to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology Hospital’s Surgery Directorate. Her passion lies in the realm of Otolaryngology, and she aspires to forge a career as an Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) surgeon.
In addition to her medical commitments, Dr. Parsram serves as a Communications Officer with the Global Health and Infectious Diseases Research Group of Kumasi Collaborative Centre for Research in Tropical Medicine, which is under the guidance of Dr. John Amuasi. In this role, she plays a pivotal part in communicating research findings and collaborative work to partners and the wider community. Dr. Parsram utilizes various communication channels, including digital, social, and traditional media, to bridge the gap between complex research and public understanding, all while nurturing her communication skills.
Furthermore, she takes on the role of a medical correspondent for Multimedia Group Limited, a prominent media entity in Ghana. In this capacity, she pens insightful articles and provides news reports, focusing on health, science, research, and technology. Dr. Parsram’s dedication to improving the accessibility of health and research information to the general public is evident through her contributions in the media.
As a young and aspiring medical practitioner, as well as a burgeoning science and research communicator, Dr. Parsram remains committed to expanding her knowledge and honing her skills. Her primary goal is to enhance research dissemination and raise public awareness regarding critical health topics, particularly in middle and low-income countries like Ghana.
