Daniel Kaluuya, a Ugandan-British actor has been honoured with the award for Best Supporting actor at the 2021 Oscars for his work in the 2021 film Judas and the Black Messiah.
Kaluuya, who has been active since he was 9 years old achieved a career breakthrough after starring in the critically acclaimed film Get Out, which got him nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actor.
Subsequently , he snagged roles in the superhero film Black Panther in 2018, Widows also in 2018 and Queen & Slim in 2019.
His performance in the role of revolutionary socialist Fred Hampton in the biographical drama, Judas and the Black Messiah has won him the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actor – Motion Picture, the Critics’ Choice Movie Award for Best Supporting Actor and the the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role.
The 32-year-old actor in his acceptance speech said “What a man. How blessed we are that we live in a lifetime where he existed…I am humbled to be nominated for portraying a man whose principles I deeply respect and for guiding me to walk in his footsteps.”
Kaluuya also acknowledged his mother, the one who “gave me my factory settings so I can stand at my fullest height”.
